Lençóis Maranhenses > Virtual Tour

There’s no place in the world like Lençóis Maranhenses. The spectacular hugeness of dunes not only creates the only Brazilian desert, but also a unique combination of clear sands contrasting with lakes and life. To reach the dunes of 40 meters and dive in lagoons sometimes green, sometimes blue, you can do trekking and off road.

Pequena Barreirinhas is a city gate to the park. If you want to, you can stay in smaller villages, like Atins or Caburé. The whole region is like a huge dream. It is difficult to understand how a desert, which covers 70km of the coast and goes 50km to the country, has so much life.

There are lots of animals in the multicolored lagoons. Especially during the rainy season they become full of fish that eventually will be food for migratory and regional birds.

The movement of the dunes is continuous. In the vastness of the Lençóis Maranhenses, the sand has already swallowed houses, cars and even mules.

The incomprehensible beauty is something unique and mandatory to experience. Besides the fact that you can perceive one of the most extraordinary beauties of nature, you can also get in touch with the people who live close to the sea and the sand.

The Cerrado, that occupies almost 25% of the Brazilian territory, is like a savanna in tropical weather. This beautiful region is home for 800 species of birds and almost 200 mammals.

Cerrado has about the size of five European countries and has one of the most incredible varieties of flora along the country, with more than 10 thousand species of plants. Its landscape, perfect for practicing adventure tourism, is crossed by crystalline rivers: ideal for baths while trekking. The Cerrado varies a lot along its almost 2 million square kilometers through 11 Brazilian states.

Cerrado is one of the most important biomes of the country, mainly because it is one of the oldest. You can discover anteaters, armadillos, wolves and almost 1 thousand species of butterflies. The region still has one of the main water sources of the whole Latin America: Platina, San Francisco and Amazon Basin.
