Estrada Real > Virtual Tour

The Estrada Real, extends through 3 states, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and it is a way of getting in contact with the rich history of gold and diamond’s exploration in Brazil.

It goes through the most beautiful Brazilian landscapes, wonderful historic cities and lots of preserved areas, the track provides you with one of the best combinations in the country: trekking and other adventure activities, like rappel and mountain biking.

At the beginning, the road used to link Vila Rica, today the city of Ouro Preto, with Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro. Because of the necessity of taking the rocks found in Minas Gerais even faster, another route was created up to the port of Rio de Janeiro.

Diamantina also became one of the routes when it was founded some precious stones close to the city. Ouro Preto became the center of the Estrada Real.

The road is a delicious track through discoveries. You should visit the magnificent cities of Ouro Preto and Mariana. Today there are different routes divided into many tracks: Caminho dos Diamantes,  Sabarabuçu, Velho (old track) and Novo (new track).

You can visit the Estrada Real on foot, by bike, car or horses. The trip is a great way of discovering the history of Brazil, with magnificent landscapes.

The Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest gives life to the Brazilian coast. The green forest surrounds perfectly the paradisiacal beaches of the Brazilian seaside. With many rivers and refreshing waterfalls, it’s one of the main attractions for practicing ecotourism in the country.

The vegetation is extremely rich, but the most impressive thing is the fauna. There you will find from the rare Micos-leões-dourados (golden lion tamarin), endangered specie of monkey, to the enigmatic Onças-pintadas (jaguar). It’s more than 1.3 million square meters of exuberating forest.

At some levels this biodiversity is considered one of the biggest of the world. The variety that goes along the country is enormous. You can see Jacarés-de-papo-amarelo(specie of alligator), Papagaio-de-cara-roxa (an exotic purple parrot) and also Botos-tucuxi(specie of Dolphin). During some research in Reserva Biológica Do Una, in the state of Bahia, North American researchers identified 450 different species of trees in only one hectare of forest.

Mata Atlântica, had a main role during the colonization of the country, and impressed the Portuguese that arrived here in 1500. Preserved even nowadays, this massive forest keeps in some parts, besides animals and plants, the rich history of Brazil.
